GENGAHR ATLAS PLEASE

Produced by Jack Steadman of Bombay Bicycle Club fame, Gengahr’s new single ‘Atlas Please’ is the first release following their recent album, Where Wilderness Grows. Naturally, the band is back with their unforgettable wobbling indie-rock hallmark of left-field falsetto, grooving bass lines, teetering drums and addictive guitar melodies. This intoxicating instrumentation swirls around the line 'gotta get up sometime' - it’s a point of encouragement for a friend battling with their demons and not letting go of the past. The title of this track also alludes to the Greek myth of Atlas, who after waging war on the Olympians was banished by Zeus to stand on the Western edge of the world and hold up the sky on his shoulders. We’ve all felt like that at one time or another. As lead vocalist Felix Bushe says of the song, it’s about “us considering that our lasting memories are the ones shared in good company - although, at times it can feel as though the weight of the world is resting on your shoulders. Talking to friends and considering our own personal experiences, we’re mindful that we often find it easier to suffer in silence than to open up - so being able to identify when someone you care about is hurting and to make the time to help them is an incredibly important and powerful thing to do.” Gengahr's new song is one of empathy, they understand how hard life can be, even at the best of times, and we can certainly take comfort in ‘Atlas Please’. - Hannah Thacker
